Col. Evan Shelby, Bradley County Chapter, Sons of the
Revolution in the State of Tennessee
The Evan Shelby Chapter was formed in Bradley County, Tennessee in 2005. It was named for Colonel Evan Shelby,
Tennessee/North Carolina militiaman who, with group of Wataugans, came down Tennessee River to attack Dragging
Canoe & British most western outpost near present day Chattanooga. He also served as Major at Kings Mountain and
later first General of North Carolina Militia.

Current meeting schedule: 3rd Tuesday of January, May & October at Ryans Steak House, 6:30 pm.

On Feb. 16, 2008 the Col. Evan Shelby Chapter prepared and served a Revolutionary War era lunch for some 75 Boy
Scouts, Leaders and parents, at their Ocoee Winter Camporee. It is hoped that this will spark an interest in some of the
boys in the life and times of the Revolutionary Period, and in the men and women who won our freedom.

The Chapter has currently undertaken a project to restore the cabin of
Chief John Ross near Cleveland, Tennessee.
Chief John Ross was the last principle chief of Cherokee Nation prior to removal to Oklahoma along the Trail of Tears.
